ARCEL and IUCN ELP Plan for an Exciting Future

ARCEL Director, Dr Badria Al-Awadhi, University of Kuwait, Faculty of Law Dean, Professor Fadhel Nasserallah, CEL Chair Professor Nicholas Robinson and John Scanlon, Head ELP, have participated in a series of meetings with Kuwait based institutions to progress plans for an exciting array of joint activities over the next 12-24 months. Planned activities include a Judicial Symposium for Judges from Arab States (see separate story), a 'train the trainers' course for Professors and lecturers from the Arab region (see separate story), an exchange programme between ARCEL and the IUCN ELC in Bonn, an international meeting of IUCN ELP 'centres of excellence', the possible establishment of a new 'centre of excellence' in Egypt, and progressing research on armed conflict and the environment. "Our series of meetings in Kuwait were a great success and ARCEL is to be commended for moving ahead so quickly to develop its programme" said Robinson. ARCEL was opened on 14 November 2001.
