New Deputy Chair for CEL Appointed

The IUCN Council recently appointed Prof Michael I. Jeffery QC as the new Deputy Chair for CEL. Michael is a Professor of Law in the Division of Law of the Macquarie University in Australia and is also the Director of its Centre for Environmental Law. He was formerly Chairman of the Environmental Assessment Board of Ontario, Canada in the 1980s and practised for many years at the Ontario bar, acting as lead counsel in several major environmental law cases and representing a wide variety of clients. Prior to moving to Australia in 1998, Michael was a Distinguished Visiting Research Scholar at the Natural Resources Centre of the University of Colorado and thereafter an Adjunct Professor teaching environmental law subjects. His research interests lie primarily in the area of international environmental law. He is currently undertaking research on climate change and emission trading schemes. Michael is a member of the Climate and Energy Law Specialist Group of CEL.
